PICTURE BOOK THEATRE'S first production was an adaptation of Eric Carle's A House For Hermit Crab.  With four dancers and 20 puppets this 25-minute show remains in the current repertoire available for limited touring performances.  Hermit Crab is a story about change and moving on that helps  children to understand this experience in their lives. For touring this program will be paired with one of the new 2008 fall productions premiering at The Eric Carle Museum.

PICTURE BOOK THEATRE'S adaptation of Leo Lionni's TICO AND THE GOLDEN WINGS premiered in 2007 and will continue in the repertoire for future performances only at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.  Both Carle and Lionni used collage techniques for illustrating children's books and both started these careers later in life. TICO illustrations are from 1964 when Lionni was still working  as a graphic artist. This story is set in India, and is a journey of a wingless bird who finds out in the end that although we may look the same, we are each different because of our own memories and dreams.

The Massachusetts Cultural Council selected Tico and The Golden Wings as a Gold Star Project in 2008 because of its success in integrating the arts into the community contributing to the quality of life in cities and towns across Massachusetts.
