Blending string and stick puppets, puppeteers, and young dancers, PICTURE BOOK THEATRE, located in Amherst, Massachusetts, brings to life the stories of Eric Carle and Leo Lionni. Favorite stories such as A House for Hermit Crab and Tico and the Golden Wings magically appear on stage and delight not only children, but audiences of all ages. This company, founded and directed by Therese Brady Donohue, is now available to tour to professional children's venues and in-school elementary residencies. Donohue has designed and created the masks, costumes, props, puppets and drops for each show to realistically replicate Carle and Lionni's original illustrations that children know so well. Young dancers from Amherst Ballet delight audiences in these productions. Original music is written by Massachusetts composer Karen A. Tarlow. Current recorded narrators include Walter Carroll, Nicholas Clark, Matthew Roehrig, Onawami Jean Moss, and Jane Yolen. An intergenerational troupe, the Company ranges in age from nine to seventy-five. Productions premiere each fall at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Massachusetts and are then available for limited touring engagements. Picture Book Theatre, although produced by the Museum, is an independent production entity and not a subsidiary of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.
